Greenham Together Inaugural Meeting 17th September 2026
Greenham Together "Many Hands. One Community”
On September 17th 2026, representatives from St Mary’s Church, Greenham Community Centre, Newbury Racecourse and Greenham Parish Council came together for the first meeting of Greenham Together.
The meeting began with a simple question:
“What could we achieve for Greenham by working together that we could not achieve as effectively working separately?"
There was a clear desire amongst those attending to build stronger relationships between organisations serving Greenham and to make better use of the knowledge, resources, activities and connections that already exist within our community.
Three clear principles emerged from the discussion:
Collaborate - look for opportunities to work together, share resources and support one another.
Connect - strengthen relationships between local organisations and improve communication so that we can better understand what is already happening across Greenham.
Include - How can we reach and involve more of our local community, especially those who may not currently engage with existing activities or organisations.
It was felt that we should start with what we already have rather than create new projects or events. This will help us learn more about each organisation, strengthen relationships and begin to identify where greater collaboration could make a difference.
The discussion also highlighted that some organisations working with young people do not currently have a strong connection with each other.
It was agreed that we speak with the Volunteer Centre West Berkshire to explore other organisations and activities that the volunteers may be involved with.
Greenham Community Centre is hosting a Christmas Fayre on Saturday 12th December and a Community Christmas Party on Friday 18th December but what else is happening?
Newbury Racecourse has several events taking place in December including Coral Challow Hurdle Day on 29th December, very much Newbury Racecourse’s community day.
One idea that was briefly discussed is to develop a Greenham Community booklet / resource - that can bring together useful information about local organisations, activities, services and opportunities to get involved in volunteering.
The energy in the room was very positive and it was felt that attending the racecourse event could provide a particularly useful opportunity to engage with the wider community.

Greenham Together is about connecting those strengths, collaborating, rather than working in isolation, supporting one another and most importantly, finding ways to include and reach our residents.
