Assisting Berkshire Children to read

ABC to read is an award winning charity set up in 2004 which supports children in the community who struggle with reading by providing early, practical help in schools.

The charity recruits, trains and DBS-checks volunteers who work one to one or in small groups with pupils identified by schools. Sessions are tailored to each child’s needs and focus on building skills, confidence and enjoyment of reading.

ABC to read also delivers buddy workshops, training older pupils to support younger readers. These workshops build literacy, confidence and leadership skills. Parent workshops are offered to help families support reading at home. Together, these services strengthen literacy, improve wellbeing and help children engage fully with learning.
